The Rotary Club of South Hilo installed its new board of directors and club president for its 2017-18 during a celebration Tuesday at the Hilo Yacht Club.

Brenda S. Ho, chief executive officer of Hospice of Hilo and a long-standing member of the Rotary Club of South Hilo, takes the reins as club president.

“This year’s Rotary theme is ‘Rotary Making A Difference’ and I’m so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to serve the club and our community in this way,” Ho said. “Rotary gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others in our community and the world through meaningful service.”

The Rotary Club of South Hilo performs a variety of service projects throughout the year, including the increasingly popular Hilo Huli, which to date has raised more than $200,000 for charity.

“It’s going to be a great year for Brenda,” said Rotary Club of South Hilo immediate past president Pat Aiona Jr. “She has such great ideas of ways of continuing to uplift the life of our community and she has such a strong and dedicated team to work with.”

The club, a 2016 Presidential Gold winner, recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. It is made up of business and community professionals committed to creating great friendships and doing good works in the community.
